The Advocacy Continues

RCV’s advocacy program for 2017 is off to a great start with representatives meeting with Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas on Friday 13 January.

Top of the agenda was RCV’s Budget Submission for a $150 million Rural Communities Support Fund. This fund will assist rural councils in providing an appropriate level of quality services while improving the maintenance of their assets for their communities.

This follows meetings in late 2016 with:

  • the Hon Jaala Pulford, Minister for Regional Development and Agriculture
  • Robert Larocca, Chief of Staff to the Minister for Local Government, the Hon Natalie Hutchins
  • Jarrod Dobson, Senior Advisor to Minister Pulford
  • Colin Morrison, Paul Roche and Mark Curry from Local Government Victoria.

Many councils have provided practical examples of how this fund could be used to benefit rural communities and your input is greatly appreciated. We will contact any councils yet to provide input and invite them to outline how this fund could benefit their community.

The advocacy work of Rural Councils Victoria is supported entirely by membership funds. As members, your contribution provides a strong voice to Government, influencing the policies and budgetary allocations that will impact on our sector. Thank you for your ongoing support.
