Macedon Ranges Shire Council will showcase its use of Facebook in times of emergency at
a meeting of councillors and staff from rural councils to be held in Wedderburn on Tuesday.

The Innovate and Education Spring Tour, presented by Rural Councils Victoria (RCV), offers
a range of workshops to highlight the innovation taking place in rural councils and to
introduce new tools developed by RCV to support and strengthen council performance in
economic development, population attraction and service delivery.

The team from Macedon Ranges council will discuss the considerations, planning and
success of the Macedon Ranges Emergency Alerts Facebook page which was launched in
January 2013.

The Wedderburn RCV Innovate and Educate Tour will also present training sessions on
collaboration in fleet management and building a rural brand, and will introduce new
economic development and rural migration tools.

RCV Chair, Cr Rob Gersch said rural councils are coming up with innovative solutions in the
face of limited resources and to help counter specific local issues.

“They are having some great results and other councils in their area and across the state
can learn from them. The Innovate and Educate Spring Tour is travelling around the state
and bringing different case studies to each region,” Cr Gersch said.

“As part of the program RCV will also run a workshop on small council sustainability which is
an important issue for our members.”

Bookings are essential for council employees, councillors and people who work with
councils, including Chambers of Commerce members from across the region. The event is
free. Book online at www.ruralcouncilsvictoria.org.au or contact Nicole Wakelin on 0477 761
185 for further information.

RCV is the alliance of Victoria’s 38 rural councils. It advocates for sustainable, liveable and
prosperous rural communities and delivers projects that provide support and solutions on
issues shared by the state’s rural councils.

Rural Councils Victoria is supported by the Victorian Government’s $3.3 million Networked
Rural Councils program.
