Advocacy Update

RCV’s advocacy efforts are ramping up as the Victorian State Budget approaches.

On behalf of its 38 member councils RCV’s Committee is strongly advocating for more support for rural communities from the State Government, meeting with ministers and policy makers about its request for the establishment of an annual, dedicated $150 million Rural Community Support Fund.

Following a meeting with Treasurer Tim Pallas, RCV Chair Cr Rob Gersch, Committee Secretary Juliana Phelps and Socom’s David Hawkins sat down with Special Minister of State Gavin Jennings in February. The meeting was well received as RCV pushed its case for the establishment of a $150m rural support fund. Meetings will also be held with Jacinta Allan MP, Leader of the House and the Premier’s Senior Advisor in coming weeks.

The Rural Community Support Fund is the key request in the 2017/ 2018 RCV Victorian Budget Submission which each member Council has contributed to by providing a list of community infrastructure, roads and bridges and service delivery projects that could be delivered using the proposed funding.

Increased State Government support via an annual, dedicated $150 million Rural Community Support Fund is urgently needed to ensure continued provision of services and the long term  sustainability of rural communities.

The advocacy work of Rural Councils Victoria is supported entirely by membership funds. As members, your contribution provides a strong voice to Government, influencing the policies and budgetary allocations that will impact on our sector. Thank you for your ongoing support.
